A message from Bob to our neighbors in Canada
and our First Nation friends on Walpole Island Some of the media in Canada did not get their facts straight. The 89 trees at Silent Acres Farm which John is refusing to allow the MDA to destroy are NOT infested. He has had three experts out to inspect them and he has been told every time that there is no evidence that they have any EAB. John has said, and will continue to say, "If there is any evidence that any of tree of mine has the EAB I will cut it down immediately, whether it is one of the 89 the state wants to destroy, or if it is one of the other thousands of ash trees on my property" The 89 trees scheduled for eradication are in an area near where our government has found an EAB. John has started treating his trees with the best pesticide available to homeowners on the market today. He has offered to hire an arborist to treat them with the best pesticide available to registered pesticide applicators. His offer was refused by the state. He is not letting the state cut them down because he truly believes, as I do, that treating them is a more affective way of stopping the spread of the EAB to the rest of Harsens Island and to Canada. We know that your ash trees are just as important to you as ours are to us. We also know that the ash tree, especially the Black Ash, is an important part of the heritage for the First Nation People. We would do nothing to jeapardize that resources for your people. As you probably already know your government cut a fire break of ash trees six miles wide all the way from Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie to stop the spread of the EAB. It didn't work. There have been fourteen incidents of the EAB being found in the Chatham area which jumped that fire break. We need to fight this bug by preserving all the healthy ash trees we can, not by cutting them down. Your friend, Bob |
